ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

Our short and long term residencies in partnership with the Prince Rupert Community Arts Council is back again this year!

For our first artist visitor, we're excited to welcome Marji Basso of Blackfish Beaders for our short residency program. a Gitga’at Indigenous artist Marji's work centers on cultural continuity, material knowledge, and land-based practice. Her residency project will focus on creating a contemporary piece of wearable art on this historically significant site to the Ts’msyen. Working with traditional materials harvested and prepared through Indigenous methods, Basso will incorporate cedar gathered from Gitga’at territory and wild sockeye salmon leather.

Join us for an Open House on Sunday, June 21st at the Cannery from 1-3 pm. Visit to see a display of photos of her Gitga’at relatives with connections to the North Pacific Cannery, view her wearable ‘cedar and sockeye bodice’ and learn how to make a cedar rose. We can't wait to see you there!
