About Us:
The North Pacific Cannery, a National Historic Site, preserves and celebrates the history of the salmon canning industry on the west coast.
Join our team and play a vital role in sharing this rich cultural heritage with visitors from around the world.
Position Overview:
As a Heritage Interpreter, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and informative tours, assisting visitors, and contributing to the overall visitor experience. This is an excellent opportunity to develop public speaking and customer service skills while working in a dynamic and historic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct guided tours highlighting the history, significance, and operations of the North Pacific Cannery.
- Provide exceptional customer service by answering visitor questions and assisting with inquiries.
- Support the planning and delivery of educational and interpretive programs.
- Help maintain a welcoming and safe environment for all visitors.
- Assist with event support and other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
- Friendly, professional demeanor with a passion for history and culture.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Comfortable engaging with diverse audiences.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and flexible hours.
Assets (Preferred but Not Required):
- Experience in tourism, customer service, or education.
- Knowledge of local history or the salmon canning industry.
- Multilingual abilities.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada.
- Note: Non-Canadian students holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible.
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must have a valid Social Insurance Number
- Be between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment.
- Be a high school, college, CEGEP, or university student.
- Be registered in the Young Canada Workers online candidate inventory.
Training Provided:
New hires will receive up to two weeks of hands-on training, including shadowing experienced team members, site orientation, and interpretive techniques.
